Meet the Committees!

After the Spring Conference is the perfect time to join an Iowa ACAC committee or learn more about what each one does. However, we welcome  new committee members any time. Our Executive Board uses the summer to plan for upcoming events and professional development opportunities during the academic year and continues meeting throughout the year to complete tasks.

Ready to play an active part in our Association AND in the lives of students? Learn more about our committees below and when you decide which one sounds most appealing to you, just submit our very simple Lend a Hand form!

College Day/Night Committee:

This committee coordinates college fair events across Iowa and ensures fair participation guidelines are followed. They create opportunities for students across the state by bringing colleges to their area.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Set the college fair schedule.
  • Collaborate with, and assist, on-site college fair coordinators.
  • Monitor fairs to ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Assist with evaluating feedback and implementing solutions, if needed.
  • Attend committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair: Megan Richtsmeier - Ellsworth Community College

Conference Planning Committee:

This committee organizes and executes the annual Spring Conference for Iowa ACAC members which is held in odd-numbered years. This committee also assists with MIDWest Conference planning, which is held in even-numbered years.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Plan and coordinate the Spring Conference.
  • Execute specific event planning roles and duties
  • Attend all committee planning meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair:  Autumn Luce - Grandview University

Inclusion, Access, and Success Committee:

This committee focuses on promoting inclusion, access, and success for underrepresented students with their post-secondary plans.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Work to identify barriers for underrepresented students.
  • Maintain the Freddy Miranda Access Scholarship Program, including evaluation of applicants and selection of recipients.
  • Help coordinate the L.E.A.P conference.
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair:  Jasmine Washington, Cornell College

Government Relations Committee:

This committee monitors legislative activity and advocates for students and professionals in education.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Assist in organizing the annual Visit the Hill event, which is our free advocacy event.
  • Monitor and report on legislative issues.
  • Coordinate responses to relevant issues.
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair: Tyler Poldervaart, Kirkwood Community College

Membership Committee:

This committee promotes Iowa ACAC membership and supports recruitment and retention efforts.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Promote Iowa ACAC membership and participation.
  • Assist with coordinating the Iowa ACAC Connect Mentorship program in partnership with the Professional Development and Practices Committee.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Support promotional material development.
  • Plan Iowa ACAC Member Meet-ups to connect professionals during travel season.
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair: Allison Lang, University of Iowa

Professional Development & Practices Committee:

This committee plans and implements professional learning opportunities for members.

Responsibilities of Committee:

  • Organize events such as Admission Counselor University and Colleges to Counselors (C2C).
  • Promote professional development opportunities within Iowa ACAC and NACAC.
  • Assist with coordinating the Iowa ACAC Connect Mentorship program with the Membership Committee.
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair:  Jessica Dillahunt, University of Iowa

Publications and Marketing Committee:

This committee manages communications, social media, and publications/marketing for Iowa ACAC.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Produce updates and articles for blogs and newsletters.
  • Assist with all Iowa ACAC publicity.
  • Contribute to projects including writing, graphics, photos, and video.
  • Maintain and organize event photo archives.
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.

Chair: Gabby McCoy, Des Moines Area Community College

Transfer Committee:

This committee promotes transfer student success and facilitates collaboration among institutions.

Responsibilities of the Committee:

  • Promote and educate admission professionals, school counselors, and students about the transfer process.
  • Help promote transfer fairs and events.
  • Host transfer-related roundtable discussions.
  • Present transfer updates at conferences and events
  • Attend all committee meetings in person or virtually, when possible.
