The Iowa ACAC Executive Board gathered in Okoboji, Iowa, in early August for our annual retreat. It was a great opportunity for both new and
returning board members to connect, get to know each other, and better understand our roles and responsibilities within the Association.
Day one was all about learning more about each committee, reviewing our roles, and most importantly, enjoying some much-needed camaraderie. We kicked things off with an icebreaker and got to know each other on a deeper level. This sense of cohesion among our executive board was amazing. We wrapped up the day bonding on a pontoon on Lake Okoboji with tons of laughs. Day one also offered me opportunity to share my two “presidential pillars” and goals I hope to accomplish this year as President to our board.
1. Presidential Pillar One is Professional Development and Opportunity. My focus is to continue providing high-impact professional development and to launch an Iowa ACAC mini-grant for our members. I am thinking of calling this this “OA (opportunity and access) Grant” but open to better suggestions! This grant will help cover costs like registration, travel, and lodging for those without institutional funding to attend events such as ACU, LEAP, or the Annual Conference. I’ve talked with members and heard stories of members who wanted to attend Iowa ACAC programming but couldn’t because of financial barriers. This grant is meant to keep members engaged and active in Iowa ACAC professional development opportunities, while removing the financial barriers. I see it as a reinvestment in our current members.
2. Presidential Pillar Two is Member Engagement and Community. I want to build a culture of connection and celebration by highlighting the incredible work our members are doing. You’ll see more activity on our social media, including videos, member spotlights, NACAC video takeovers, contests, and more. I encourage you to like, comment, and share our posts to help us celebrate one another and keep engagement strong.
I am beyond grateful for a chance to lead this Association as President for the upcoming year. I am blessed to be surrounded by a dedicated group of professionals on the board. We will aim to strengthen connections, reinvest in our members, and celebrate the great work happening across Iowa ACAC. I look forward to an unforgettable year!
Breaking News!! Be on the lookout early September for a new and exciting contest for our members which comes with a BIG reward!
