Real Experiences From Admissions Professionals

The Winter Virtual ACU has become an annual event for new and veteran professionals. Often, the new who attend are those who started after our traditional summer ACU. It's an opportunity to learn even more from others after having already been on the road. For seasoned professionals, it's the perfect chance to review and renewing, often sharing their years of knowledge at the same time. For everyone who attends, its a great chance to get the brain motors running after the holidays and before spring travel. 

Lucas Kahler from the University of Northern Iowa Admissions team says he found ACU to be incredibly informative.

"Some things that really stuck out to me were the really great advice from established higher education professionals of all levels in this seminar as well as the efforts put into welcoming new members and fostering networking. The information on Territory Management/Tips, Career Building, and FAFSA /Funding  was most helpful for me as it gave lots of insight to core aspects of my role as an Admissions Counselor. This seminar helped connect me to resources for my students across the U.S. who are looking for funds to continue their education in the state of Iowa.It also opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of higher education as an industry and the available possibilities within an Admissions based career. I will definitely be continuing to explore the wealth of opportunities and information provided by Iowa ACAC."

Katie Terlouw is Admissions and Financial Support Coordinator at the DMACC-Newton Campus. She says it was a great introduction and somewhat of an eye-opener.

"I didn't realize all of the resources that were available to us through the Dept. of Ed, or ICAN. It was helpful getting to hear from people that have been in the field for a long time. So often it seems like a field with high turnover, or a steppingstone to something else, so it was nice to listen to people who have been at it awhile."
