In July, the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling hosted Admission Counselor University (ACU) at Buena Vista University. New counselors from any college or university in Iowa were able to attend.

I was able to learn from current counselors through presentations about different topics in the admissions process. We also had a mock college fair, where we presented to current counselors. Through these events we were able to learn tips and tricks about being successful as a counselor. There was also a social at night and a yoga/Zumba class in the morning that everyone could attend if they wanted.

My favorite part was meeting and bonding with new counselors from other schools. It was good to meet people that I will be seeing throughout the year during travel. Through this, I was able to build connections with other counselors and schools. ACU was a great experience and resource for me to learn from current and new counselors.

In college, I was able to get hands-on experience of admissions during college fairs and meeting with students. I am very excited to have the opportunity to recruit students and make personal connections with the families during their college search process. I am also excited to make connections with different schools and counselors.
