The new year has brought a sense of reflection and gratitude for being part of this group. One of the reasons that I appreciate being part of the college admissions and school counseling community is the sense of purpose, resilience, and tenacity of the individuals in these professions.
You are focused on your reason for being part of our students’ lives across Iowa and beyond. You want what is best for the people you serve, and you have a spirit of giving. Each year, as the cycle repeats itself, you face new obstacles and challenges head-on and persist through, not only to reach the goals set for your school or institution but for what is right for the students in your orbit. Finally, I appreciate that you serve your students with a determination to get them through the finish line of high school or into the doors of your institution by supporting them on the way, holding them up when they have given up on themselves, and looking at the positive.
It can be easy to get bogged down in the negative news about education and the world. I would encourage you to remain positive and continue to advocate for our students in Iowa and across the country by keeping in mind the Core Values from NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission: Education, Access and Equity, Professionalism, Collegiality, Collaboration, Trust, and Social Responsibility. As you look ahead, what value(s) resonate most with you?
At Iowa ACAC, the spring brings a Winter ACU, Visit the Hill with ISCA, Spring Fairs, the 2025 Spring Conference - Bridging Together, and finishing up with a new class of students graduating from high school and preparing for new admits. We are excited to see you out and about across the state this Spring.
Thank you for all you do for our students and for being a part of my professional network.
